Practice History
Mr. Skaggs’ legal practice focuses on business and real estate transactional and planning law. He has considerable experience in business formation and planning, sale and purchase transactions, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. He represents an impressive cross-section of large and small business clients throughout the Midwest and assists in the organization, growth and ongoing operations and liquidation of manufacturing companies, retail organizations, service businesses, health care providers, real estate developers, construction entities, technology companies and financial institutions. Mr. Skaggs has creatively structured various business relationships, including commercial financing, employment, joint ventures, business development, company mergers and reorganizations, owner buy-sell agreements, and business succession plans.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Skaggs was a research attorney for the Honorable Robert L. Gernon on the Kansas Court of Appeals. He also worked for two prominent Kansas law firms, Barber Emerson, L.C. of Lawrence and Fleeson, Gooing, Coulson & Kitch, LLC of Wichita, before joining Weary Davis in 2003.
Personal
Mr. Skaggs was born in Greensburg, Kansas, and is an avid outdoorsman. He received his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1995 from Washburn University School of Law. During law school, he served on the Washburn Law Journal and published two articles. In 1992, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration cum laude from Kansas State University.
